At the Rosemount Hotel in Pitlochry, we fully embrace the traditional Hogmanay Celebration at New Year. This ritual is deeply ingrained in Scottish culture and holds great significance for many people. It is commonly known as Hogmanay, and the Scottish people take great pride in celebrating this event in a traditional, socially-embracing way. Young and old, folk from all backgrounds and creed forget differences and celebrate their similarities: Our New Year’s Eve Break encapsulates the essence of this important time of friendship.

One of the most prominent traditions of Hogmanay in Scotland is feasting and partaking in the traditional Ceilidh, a high-energy, fun musical gathering, where music and dance are used to enhance goodwill and bonhomie. The evening progresses to the group singing of “Auld Lang Syne” at the Bells (midnight), while holding hands in an extension of friendship according to a ritualized custom that dates back centuries. This is often accompanied by the lighting of bonfires and the staging of street parades and gatherings. The festivities often continue for several days.

After the Bells, we move outdoors, where fire pits blaze and a glass of mulled wine awaits, whilst the skies fill with fireworks. Last year, the snow started to fall just as the fireworks ended. Magical!

New Year's Day

With spirits raised and new friends made, we start the New Year with a Hogmanay Brunch that features traditional Scottish food, fresh from river, field and sea.

We are serenaded to the strains of the pipes as Christie Kelly, a Pitlochry piper of world acclaim, announces New Year’s Day to the town from outside our Restaurant. The sonorous tones echo in the surrounding hills and, for a reason I cannot explain, there’s rarely a dry eye in the house.

The famous Pitlochry Street Party fills the afternoon with more Scottish Music and Dance. Hundreds of folk come from far and wide to enjoy the spectacle of a Gay Gordons that extends almost the entire length of the High St. There’s great opportunity to learn some steps to more Scottish dances and enjoy this amazing event

We will 100% be back. We loved our stay here. We booked this place as we were meeting family (who also stayed at this hotel) and we needed somewhere dog friendly. This place was very dog friendly, dogs were made to feel very welcome, like family. We loved that no place was off limits so they could sit with us at dinner and breakfast. The room was just lovely, so quiet and we had the best nights sleep. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic as was dinner in the evening. Staff couldn't do enough to help. We will definitely be back!

Just lovely. Everyone was so kind and helpful. The room was very nice, with a sitting room separate from the bedroom, which was perfect. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant, and both were absolutely delicious. The chef, Ron, came out to ask us about our meal, and we had a wonderful chat. Our waitress gave us suggestions for places in the village we could walk to for late night beverages. Everything was delightful, and so much nicer than staying in a big chain hotel.

Loved the location and surroundings. Staff and owners were very welcoming, very large ground floor room ideal for letting out little dog out when needed. Breakfast was very nice and great chilled atmosphere in the breakfast room. Dog friendly, even offered some sausage in a bowl which was so kind. Will come again 100%!

The staff and facilities at Rosemount are second to none, particularly for the price point. The rooms are cosy, clean and well-kept, and the staff are incredibly warm, friendly and will do all they can to make your stay a pleasant one. The breakfast selection was excellent - I was particularly impressed with the vegan offerings as they can often be poor in more rural locations. I highly recommend booking yourself into Rosemount, and I can't wait to stay there again. Huge thanks to Anne and the whole team - you went above and beyond for my group and it made a busy work trip all the easier.
